Graduation Requirements

We want success for all students

Ocean Beach School District wants the best for its students – success at whatever they choose to do in life.

To ensure this success, our students and parents must be familiar with the statewide graduation requirements established by the Washington State Board of Education. The Ocean Beach School District has further defined these requirements, which are outlined below.

All students in our district will be held accountable to these requirements. Each student must successfully:

  1. Earn 24 class credits

  2. Draft a High School & Beyond Plan

  3. Complete 20 hours of Community Service

  4. Gain Career Exploration Experience

  5. Complete a Graduation Pathway

High School & Beyond Plan

The High School & Beyond Plan is a requirement for graduation in Washington State and in the Ocean Beach School District. The plan includes elements of reflection about the choices students have made throughout high school; their career explorations and evaluations; their goals for the future; and their specific steps to reaching those goals.

Community Service

To graduate from Ilwaco High School, we require students to complete 20 hours of Community Service.

Career Exploration Experience

Career Exploration Experience is a requirement for graduation from Ilwaco High School. Career Exploration Experience activities include job shadowing and informational interviews. These activities are an opportunity for students to learn about careers directly from the people involved in them, including the day-to-day responsibilities of the job, the skills and education required, and options for careers in the field.

Graduation Pathway

A Graduation Pathway is a requirement for graduation in Washington State and the Ocean Beach School District. A graduation pathway demonstrates that students are prepared "for a meaningful first step after high school" (OSPI). There are multiple ways for students to show readiness for life after high school and meet this graduation requirement: achievement on certain assessments, CTE course sequence completion, and success in dual credit courses including Running Start and College in the High School.
