Community Service
Ilwaco High School students are required to volunteer for 20 hours to fulfill the Community Service graduation requirement.
Before participating in any community service projects, you must obtain pre-approval from the Principal, Dean of Students, or College and Career Readiness Advisor. Community service completed without prior approval may not be accepted if it does not meet the required standards for a community service project.
Expectations
Community service is an opportunity for students to give back to their community, develop valuable skills, and gain a sense of social responsibility. To meet the 20-hour community service requirement, students should adhere to the following guidelines:
Type of Service: The service should benefit the community at large or a non-profit organization. Activities like tutoring, volunteering at shelters, environmental projects, or assisting in community events are encouraged. Work for private businesses or for personal gain is not eligible.
Documentation: Students must maintain accurate records of their service hours, including dates, times, and tasks performed. The supervisor must verify this information. Use the Community Service Timesheet to keep track of your hours.
Conduct: Students are expected to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and a positive attitude while performing their service. Professional behavior and adherence to the organization’s guidelines are required at all times.
Completion: The 20 hours must be completed within their four years of high school. Failure to complete the required hours may impact graduation eligibility.
Reflection: Students are encouraged to take pictures to document their community service experience as well as reflect on their community service experience, considering how it has impacted them personally and the community.
