These fabulous students were nominated by their senior classmates earlier in the week. Last night after final votes were tabulated, Moises Mendez Hernandez and Candice Skillings were crowned as our 2024 Prom King and Queen. Congratulations to two of our finest.
A Special Message of Thanks:
IHS held our Junior/Senior Prom last night at the Loft at the Red Building in Astoria. Our junior class was responsible for selecting the theme so we enjoyed a fun evening in the Enchanted Forest.
The night would not be possible without some amazing help from our FISH PTO group and a focused parent prom committee who took our students’ vision and desires and made them happen. They met several times, and coordinated the food, drinks, and all of the decorations. On top of that, we all spent several hours yesterday morning setting up and then cleaning up at midnight.
These key players included Tania Miller at The Lost Roo who also donated and provided all of the snacks, Angie Jansma with Diamond Espresso who contributed all of the italian soda/energy drink supplies, Kandi Starr with all of her decorating expertise and materials, Johanna Gustafson who brought her staging and event planning wisdom and Anna Taft with her hours of photography at the event.
Additional thanks go to those who helped in various ways with setup and cleanup including Tania Miller, Angie Jansma, Johanna & David Gustafson, Jeff Hightower, Brianna Woodham, Sarah Miller and crew, Valerie Bittner, Vinessa Karnofski, Ameliza Dille, Cheri Lloyd, Nathan & Tricia Needham, Helen & Arianna Bell, Amy Curry, & Chandy Gaub. Thanks to Nansen Malin from Nansen Florals for the use of her supplies and her creativity and to Rachel Lake with all of her guidance from her many years of Prom planning and for booking the venue for us.
We also had a great turnout of staff who helped chaperone and take on various roles during the event. Chaperoning appreciations go to Elly Rosaire, Jackie Hofer & Todd Pierce, Amy & Troy Lomax, Annie Rivers, Teri Plato, Kymm Baze, Justin Adams, Cindy Guzman, Leena Couling, Ruby Anderson, Don Zuern, Levi Burke and myself.
I sincerely hope that I’m not forgetting anyone but please know how much you all are appreciated. It was a beautiful event for our students. Our community was pivotal in creating a memory that hopefully they cherish for a lifetime. Thank you all!
- Sheena Burke

They spent the day touring Evergreen State College and Saint Martin's University in Olympia. We hope these opportunities inspire our students as they make exciting decisions about the next leg of their academic journeys.
We're pretty proud of our student-athletes as they rise up to take on the advancing competition this week. Here's how you can join us!
Yesterday, our IHS staff was pleasantly surprised with pizza in the staff room, thanks to Pacific Bible Church. We didn't realize it was National Pizza Day, but they did and treated us to a thoughtful surprise. A big thank you to Pacific Bible Church for the delicious treat!
Now to recognize a couple of our students:
Congratulations to Mikaila Warfield as she was just named WIAA Athlete of the Week.
These student-athletes are selected for outstanding performances and impactful contributions in their communities and must be in good academic standings at their schools.
In Ilwaco High School's first round district game on Saturday, freshman Mikaila Warfield led Ilwaco in scoring with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 8 steals helping them to a 58-41 win over Onalaska. The week before, Warfield put up 40 points and 25 rebounds against league rival Chief Leschi.
Congratulations Mikaila! We are proud of you!
Congratulations to Josh Wall for being named NMA's 2023 Rider of the Year! Josh was selected for setting a standard of outstanding sportsmanship and professionalism and for his dedication to supporting and encouraging those around him. We are proud of you, Josh!
