Ilwaco High School
March
ATTN: We WILL have school on Monday, March 11th. It’s a makeup weather day for the cancellation in January. School will be in session.
Conferences: We will have half days on Thursday, March 28th & Friday, March 29th for student conferences. The student schedule will be periods 1, 2 & 3 on Thursday and periods 4,5, & 6 on Friday. We will begin scheduling meetings with needed students during the week of March 11th but please note that all students/parents can request a conference at any time and we are happy to put you on the calendar. We will have another regular conference opportunity during May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.
Smarter Balanced Assessment Week is coming up May 6th-10th. We will be sending out more information soon to share with you the importance of the SBA and its role as a graduation requirement. If at all possible, please avoid scheduling appointments or trips for your student during that week. It’s important that they are here and ready to do their best.
Spring Sports are in session. I will include the games below but please know that weather causes a great deal of cancellations and time adjustments for our spring season. These are subject to change at any time due to weather. If you have a student in spring sports, the best notification for changes will come from coaches. You can also check our district calendar, however that won’t necessarily alert you of a change but you can cross-check before you leave home for an event. You can also sign-up for notifications on our district page, under Fishermen Athletics (about mid-page) and then click on “sign up for alerts” at the top. Oh, the joy of spring sports and our rainy weather!
Attendance continues to be a major concern here at school. Please reference page 23 in our student handbook about allowable absences for what is excused. Please note that after 10 absences, the school board policy is that a doctor’s note is required in order to excuse an absence. It is paramount to your student’s education that they are here and are regularly in attendance. Please reach out if there are ways that we can support your student in finding success in this area.
Spring Break: April 1st-5th is spring break and there is no school.
Junior/Senior Prom: Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend prom which is Saturday, April 13th, 9-midnight at the Red Building in Astoria. More details to come soon. Please save the date and know that tickets will be for sale the week prior to the dance and having no assignments on ICU is a requirement. If Juniors and Seniors wish to bring a guest from that is not a student at our high school, then a guest request will need to be submitted and approved prior to tickets being purchased for eligible guests. Those forms can be picked up in our front office.
Lunch Time Study Table: During lunch time on Tuesdays and Thursdays we have study table in the library for students who would like extra help with school work. We have adult tutors available. This study table is mandatory for students failing multiple classes. Students can also take advantage of tutor time on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in their Navigate classes, which are the last half hour of the day. We want to make sure that our students have plenty of time to access help and every chance to be successful during our school day. Please reach out if you have any questions.
